Proactively monitor, interpret, analyze and diagnose power and environmental alarms in the central offices. Examine alarm history and patterns. Analyze voltage loads. Determine course of action needed, following appropriate escalation guidelines.
Communicate with BRI, WEC, COTs, outside technicians, and emergency response agencies to resolve power and environmental alarms.
Issue tickets to have power and environmental alarms cleared.
Switch Provisioning, Surveillance, SS7 Translations and Provisioning
Proactively monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the network switches (including SS7). Conduct routines and/or audits on the switches. Run diagnostic test programs, analyze defects, test, repair and/or maintain various types of switches.
Provision, rearrange (either Company- or customer-initiated), and remove links. Verify link design, interacting with other internal departments as necessary. Track status of new T1-related carrier orders. Pre-test the links.
Deal with DS0/56 K circuits. Interact with TMC to ensure that the T1s are turned up.
Perform Gateway Screening. Translate network to determine the appropriate security level for traffic. Analyze and resolve Gateway Screening and MTP routing errors.
Monitor and resolve STP, link, SEAS/TSNAM troubles using NMA, WFA, TIRKS, AcceSS7, TSNAM, vendor documentation, procedures posted on internet, and WFA dispatch. Consult technical support as needed to resolve problems.
Provide the “instructions” or rules needed by appropriately equipped switching offices, STPs and SCPs to encode, route and recode SS7 message signal units (MSUs).
Utilize AcceSS7 to set up call traces and protocol analysis sessions to troubleshoot network problems.
Build STP translations and assign all ports/STs and modems to ensure diversity within the STP. Update and maintain point code assignments.
Coordinate cuts for disconnects/adds for changes in the circuit during the maintenance window. Notify appropriate personnel if work during the maintenance window may affect critical circuits.
Prepare, distribute and maintain translation databases.
Issue work request and initiate dispatch to onsite technicians when physical work/installation is required.
Follow up with customers, technicians, or other departmental employees to ensure service affecting work is being or was accomplished by the committed due date.
Run loop back tests to pre-test circuits or to isolate trouble within the circuits.
This is a 24/7 workgroup. Must be able and willing to work any shift to include weekends and holidays.
Previous experience with monitoring and troubleshooting network alarms for Switch (5e, Dms, Dms-10, Ewsd, Axe, Dco and Gtd5) Power, SS7 and MOC technologies.
Provide immediate notifications and information to necessary groups during service interruptions and jeopardy conditions.
Work with various teams to ensure that impacts to the network are repaired in a timely manner.
Handle incoming phone calls while still diligently monitoring the network via NMA.
Have the ability to prioritize work items under minimal to no supervision.
Strong multitasking skills are necessary.
Systems and working experience within NMA, WFA, OTTO, TTi, Switch, SS7 and MOC is preferred.
