The fully qualified Customer Service Technician will be installing telephone plant facilities and high-speed internet at customer premises according to specifications directed and established by CenturyLink procedures. This includes maintaining, expanding, replacing and repairing all plant facilities and subscriber apparatus required to provide service to customers. The Service Technician interacts directly with CenturyLink customers and support sales efforts through YouCan.
The position requires technical proficiency to perform the specific work requirements of the job in the particular location.
The Customer Service Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strive for satisfactory customer service by performing such duties as: cable maintenance, installation, removal, rearrangement and maintenance of single line and associated apparatus equipment, up to and including cross connection to the switching equipment; single & multi channel subscriber carrier systems; performs other related duties.
Build span lines, installing repeaters or doublers and performing tag and test functions on cable pairs to meet HDSL requirements.
Observe all safety rules and regulations.
Assist other Technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested.
Convey a positive and professional appearance and demeanor when communicating the company’s products and services to our customers.
Actively support sales and marketing related activities
Assume all other duties as assigned.
Note: Attendance, conduct, and performance records will be considered in the selection process. The selection process for this position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Three (3) years of current telecommunications industry experience in one or more of the following areas: installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial, buried and underground wire and cable; High Speed Internet; station equipment.
Experience with performing transmission and noise measurements and making corrective adjustments to equipment.
Ability to interpret work prints, service orders and drawings; work from oral or written instructions, plan work and work without direct supervision and repair technical problems with minimum supervision.
Knowledge or able to acquire: Power system and its operators, digital data communication, long loop line treat requirements, carrier and span line maintenance, "Special Service" equipment install and maintenance, central office "controlled maintenance" procedures and records, and fiber optic terminal equipment.
Ability to safely use hooks, ladders, bucket trucks; and to climb poles.
Ability to distinguish colors on facilities.
Ability to lift heavy objects as required.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and at various hours of the day/night.
Ability to respond to after hour call-outs, work overtime, shift, weekends, and holidays as required.
Ability to travel overnight as necessary for business requirements and training.
Possession of a valid State driver’s license with ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment, and maintain a safe driving record.
Ability to maintain an excellent attendance record.
Ability to reside within certain proximity of a reporting location
Associate’s Degree in Electronics/Communications or equivalent work experience.
CCNT, CCNA, Network+, or A+ Certifications.
Training on basic IT and network fundamentals.
Experience in Outside Plant functions.
Subscriber carrier training.
Pole climbing training.
Experience or training in how to read and interpret outside and subscriber plant facility records.
Internet protocol telephony exposure.
Electronics training or experience that demonstrates knowledge of AC/DC theory.
Experience splicing fiber optics.
Knowledge of analog and digital transmission.
Experience with installation and troubleshooting of high-speed internet services.
Proven ability to generate sales opportunities during day-to-day customer contact.
