Job Summary

CenturyLink’s Threat Research team is looking for a Linux Administrator in Broomfield, CO, USA. This team works on huge information security related data sets with our distributed computing cluster. This position will support the ongoing operations of our big data infrastructure that is used to analyze threats. A knowledgeable Linux admin with a passion for learning and running systems is the type of person we are looking for. This is a small team full of people that love to learn new things. Job Description

This position will work within the platform and infrastructure area of the Threat Research team. The work effort of the role is focused on the ongoing operational support of existing Linux (CentOS 7) systems that support our Hadoop ecosystem such as HBase, HDFS, Spark, Kafka, etc as well as our network of honeypots in cloud providers.

What the candidate will contribute to the team:

• Develop system performance metrics and create alerts and dashboards around them

• Respond to alerts as they arise and troubleshoot to mitigate complex issues

• Tune and make system optimizations at the direction of our Platform Engineer and Architect

• Automate system tasks at a very large scale

• Perform periodic rolling application and operation system upgrades

Qualifications

Desired candidates will have a strong background exhibiting:

• Knowledge of Linux and operating systems concepts

• Basic understanding of lifecycle tasks for Linux systems

• Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly

Well experienced candidates may also have the following skills:

• Knowledge with infrastructure management tools like salt, ansible, puppet, chef, kickstart, cobbler, etc

• Experience with system level scripting and automation (shell/python)

• Experience working with commodity distributed computing clusters

• Experience with Hadoop distributions like Cloudera, MapR and HortonWorks

• Experience Docker, Jenkins, and other continuous deployment tools

Bachelors or Equivalent
