CenturyLink’s Strategic Planning & Transformation (SP&T) organization is accountable and responsible for supporting existing products that are currently being sold by our global enterprise, federal, wholesale, small and medium and consumer business units, develop the new products that our product management team want to develop, simplify and enhance the digital user experience for north American and global operations, and keep up with the new optical, ethernet, WAN, IP, voice and security technologies so that our customers benefit from low cost per bit but high quality network and services that we offer.
The Sr Manager, Data Science is a highly skilled leader who helps drive the design and development of programs, methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze diverse, structured and unstructured “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions using machine learning and advanced analytics. This position will coordinate and lead product and service team interactions to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. Interprets and communicates insights and findings from analyses and experiments to other analysts, data scientists, team members and business partners.
The Sr Manager, Data Scientist drives interactions with business units, operations teams and SP&T teams to identify issues and business needs for prioritization, data analysis and experiments.
Proactively identifies meaningful insights by executing data discovery, exploratory data analysis, and iteratively developing predictive and prescriptive models to identify optimal solutions.
This position partners with SP&T partners across Data Lake, Data Science, Splunk/ElasticSearch and Business Intelligence functions focused on Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics and Artificial Intelligence projects across the enterprise. Influences these teams to identify priorities and coordinate programs and projects to resolve the business needs. Works on solutions in a hybrid cloud environment and leverages those environments for competitive advantage
This position will also assist with operationalizing the insights and solutions and changing business processes to maximize the value of those solutions.
Proactively manage SP&T efforts to develop predictive and prescriptive models in the areas of capacity planning, anomaly detection, predictive asset failure/maintenance, workload optimization, customer segmentation and business performance.
Mine information for previously unknown patterns and insights hidden in these assets and leverage them for competitive advantage.

Lead a highly skilled agile team and within a strongly focused DevOps culture.
5+ years of management experience leading teams.
10+ years full lifecycle software development experience.
12+ years’ experience delivering Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics solutions
Experience with statistical programming environments like Python, R, SPSS or SAS
Fluent in one or more object-oriented languages like C#, C++, Scala, Java, and scripting languages like Python or Ruby
Experience compiling data into an easily understandable and consumable business format to meet the needs of the intended audience and influencing them to take action
Proven track record of converting strategy to execution plan and consistently deliver projects, initiatives, and strategic imperative goals on time and in budget
Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated ability engaging with C-level and other company executives.
Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities. Can solve even the toughest and most complex of problems of high complexity; great at gleaning meaning from whatever data is available;
Communicate effectively at all levels in all formats – in person, written, and verbal
Preferred: Experience with Cloudera or Pivotal Hadoop distributions, Experience with Microsoft Assure in a Hybrid Data Lake environment; Experience working with streaming data and deriving insights from network and network element telemetry data
Fearlessly takes on all issues and challenges; delivers positive and negative feedback and messages; not afraid to take tough action; challenges the status quo
Strong leadership ability to manage in an agile environment
Experience in Agile software development practices using tools such as Jira.
Ability to utilize big data technologies such as Hadoop, Splunk to generate data driven Small Business experience.
Experience with Advanced SQL/database programming in one or more of the following commercial relational databases: MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL
