Diagnoses physical layer network failures using established procedures. Provides support to customers and field service staff in resolving moderate to complex technical problems. Coordinates problem-solving efforts between customers, field service personnel and the centralized provisioning center
Essential Job Duties
•Provides support to internal and external customers to resolve moderate to complex technical problems
•Fundamental understanding of WAN topologies
•Remains current on latest data network technology through completion of required/recommended training and reading material.
•Drives fault resolution through vendors or internal groups
•Interfaces between many systems and databases
•Performs basic levels of physical layer troubleshooting
Behavioral & Technical:
•Demonstrates professional internal and external customer facing communication skills and following established objectives using phone, email, database, and ticketing notes
•Escalates as appropriate for higher level of support
•Ability to understand circuit designs and engineering
•Basic knowledge of DS0, DDS, and DS1 provisioning
•Basic knowledge of digital cross-connect systems
•Basic knowledge of remote test vehicles
• Assoc degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.
• 2 - 3 years related experience in specific area or equivalent.
•Associate Degree or equivalent experience in Telecommunications, Operations, Technology or related field
•3-5 years telecom industry experience
•Basic physical layer technical skills in analog and digital environments
•Basic DS0, DDS, and DS1 testing and troubleshooting skills
•Verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
•Ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks and meet aggressive deadlines
•Ability to work in a team environment and communicate with customers in a professional manner
•Ability to work flexible hours as needed
•Experience using Computer Systems and Microsoft Office or related applications.
• Basic knowledge of the OSI model
• Must be able to multitask in an environment of constantly changing priorities
• Must have a healthy sense of urgency
• Must be results driven
• Basic knowledge of Frame Relay, ATM, ISDN, SONET, Ethernet, OCx is desired
• Basic background of network equipment including multiplexers, channel banks, protocol analyzers, and other test equipment
