Manages a team that drives the execution of EMEA product development across the core products and services as per the company’s roadmap. Ensures all the developments are prioritised, progressed, reported on whilst ensuring through excellent stakeholder management that the required governance is applied throughout each phase of the development. This role requires a close working relationship with BPI, IT and Product Management to ensure that products are progressed through each phase of the process on-scope, on-time, and on-budget. The role demands excellent project and programme management skills.
Demonstrates superior verbal and written communication skills and drafts communication plan specific for each portfolio of product development initiatives. Applies discipline in communicating portfolio status proactively and frequently based on criticality of each project. Runs timely and structured meetings that include agendas, meeting notes, and action items. Exhibits solid presentation skills, utilizing appropriate tools to help get the message across.
Directly manages one or more teams of Product Development Managers that support multiple global product families that have significant strategic and financial impact. Builds a high performance team. Hires and retains the right talent in the right roles. Sets goals, delegates work, holds reports accountable. Develops and empowers direct reports to make decisions and take action. Communicates context for business decisions. Recognizes accomplishments. Fosters teamwork and collaboration.
Responsible for defining and prioritizing product initiatives for multiple portfolios. Leads portfolio planning sessions, provides timely updates and input for resource utilization modelling. Identifies ways to phase programs such that optimal path is taken to deliver business value or to accelerate time to market. Proactively resolves product portfolio roadmap conflicts or escalations when conflicts cannot be resolved without impact to other projects.
Provides leadership for long-range enterprise-wide product development planning. Serves as both a business and technical product expert in the product development area supported. Sets standards for optimal product portfolio development approach. Serves as evangelist for creating a new product or for improving the performance of an existing one. Collaborates to improve quality, gain efficiencies and reduce cost of existing products. Leads efforts to prioritize and accelerate time to market.
Exerts a high level of influence in stakeholder relations, defining optimal delivery timelines, directing the team’s activities, tracking performance and maintaining the team’s alignment with programs and portfolio goals. Serve as primary communicator across portfolio stakeholders, consistently reporting status, risks, and issues. Displays ability to resolve conflict and enforce roles and standards across the various functions.
Bachelor's degree in a business or relevant technical field. 5+ years relevant experience in product development, project management, portfolio management or related fields. Experience in broadcast, digital media or telecoms industries would be highly advantageous. 2+ years of experience as a people manager.
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interface at all levels of the organization. Understanding of company products (or equivalent relevant experience) and customer needs in successfully consuming such products. Product development methodologies – ability to select and implement the most appropriate methodology to ensure successful project execution, including the application of iterative and agile methodologies. Attention to detail – able to understand which issues warrant digging into and a willingness to dig into low level details to diagnose and resolve issues. Consensus building – able to interface with both business and technical teams to build the consensus required to resolve issues and bring new solutions to market. Strong analytical / conceptual capability. Ability to interpret data and infer broad themes and trends. Good influencing / coaching skills.
Required Knowledge and Skills: Product Lifecycle Management. Waterfall and Agile Project Management practices.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Process Architecture, UML or similar business process modelling. PMI, Six Sigma Project Management. OSS development experience. IT Application Development experience. Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
