As a CenturyLink Network Tech (Central Office) in Torrington, Wyoming; you will be responsible for all aspects of working in the physical Central Office.
Support and maintain all switching equipment in Central Offices.
Keep all backup generators and power plants in optimum condition.
Monitor and support all switch alarm activity.
Install, support and maintain fiber and copper networks.
Support and maintain transport network and central power platforms.
Tech should be familiar with both inside and outside plant cabling practices.
Tech must be self-motivated and be able to drive issues to resolution.
Tech is expected to promote and sell CenturyLink services.
Tech must observe all safety rules and regulations.
Tech must work well with both customers and fellow peers.
Must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions including adverse.
At least six (6) months experience within the last five (5) years diagnosing circuit trouble, and performing routine testing, including measuring AC/DC current using volt ohm meters, TMS, or comparable test equipment.
Must be proficient in DMS100 Switch maintenance and provisioning.
Must be able to perform all types of switch maintenance including routines and troubles.
Need to be able to complete growth jobs & turn-ups on integrated pair gain.
Need to be proficient in IOF work including MUXES up to and including fiber Muxes.
Responsible for the provisioning and maintenance of Central Office including, but not limited to subscriber loop carrier systems, DSL, POTS, GPON/PRISM, digital and optical muxes.
Installs, performs routine maintenance, analyzes defects, tests, adjusts, repairs and maintains complex equipment such as switching systems, circuit equipment, network terminal equipment, and data/digital equipment by using electrical and or electronic measuring devices.
Updates work and maintenance logs through WFA, Word.docs and FOMS databases.
Plans jobs and determines materials and resources needed to complete tasks.
Keeps work team and managers informed of status on work tasks and projects.
Reviews and interprets work orders, wiring lists, wiring diagrams, and equipment drawings and follows standard practices in the performance of job duties.
Runs diagnostic test programs, analyzes defects and/or tests various types of telephone switching equipment (5ESS, DMS 10, DMS 100, Ericcson, Electronic Data Switching, etc.), uses various types of testing devices, e.g. volt-ohm meters, spectrum analyzer, digital communications, data analyzers, etc.
Configure and troubleshoot LAN/WAN systems to include routers, switches, hubs, transceivers, servers, and DSL, as well as, programming ATM based services (i.e. ADSL).
Utilizes knowledge of general input and analysis of ESS translations.
May require travel between Central Office locations.
May be required to reside within certain proximity of a reporting location.
Must be able to travel overnight as necessary for business requirements and training.

Three years of current experience in a Central Office, related telephony field, or the equivalent in training and experience.
Incumbent must be technically proficient in order to perform the specific work requirements of the job in the particular location.
Ability to achieve required certifications and to successfully complete any required training or coursework.
Ability to analyze the performance of switching and peripheral data systems and initiate corrective action.
Effective oral and written communication skills, particularly in detailing technical information.
Ability to maintain an excellent attendance record.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to safely operate company vehicles and equipment, and maintain a safe driving record.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting and/or moving objects weighing over 75 pounds.
Ability to identify and distinguish audible tones/levels.
Knowledge of transmission and supervision characteristics.
Must have working knowledge of central office NAP functions.
Must have working knowledge of PC’s, including basic computer operational tasks.
Works varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, and/or callouts, weekends and holidays.
Must be able to respond to after hour call-outs, work overtime, shift, weekends, and holidays as required.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and at various hours of the day/night.
Ability to quickly adapt to new technology/equipment/platforms.
Basic electricity knowledge as it relates to telecommunications (through classes or on the job-related training) including: reading & interpreting circuit diagrams, equipment drawings, & technical manuals.
Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
Working knowledge of analog, digital test and transmission equipment, volt-ohm meter, or comparable testing equipment.
Working knowledge of Sonet/DWDM equipment and services (e.g. DCS and optical muxes).
Ability to troubleshoot and isolate problems within physical or electrical circuits.
Ability to respond to callouts within reasonable timeframe.
Ability to work aloft (e.g. ladder).
Ability to provide efficient, quality service to both internal and external customers both face-to-face and over the phone.
Ability to multi task under pressure in an everchanging environment.
Ability to work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, At least 12 months experience within the last five (5) years diagnosing circuit trouble, and performing routine testing, including measuring AC/DC current using volt ohm meters, TDR, or comparable test equipment.
SONET Fiber Optic transport experience.
Training in inter-networking technology and LAN/WAN equipment such as Ethernet switches, routers, ATM, frame relay, IP, and routing protocols.
AFC experience. Training in the maintenance and operation of AFC (DLC), Calix DSL systems, Adtran (DLC), Fujitsu (FO Transport), and Alcatel DSL systems.
Knowledge of SS7 networks in theory.
Experience and/or training in copper transmission systems, fiber optics transmission systems, installation, testing and troubleshooting (DSO, DS2, DS3, SONET, PON, etc.).
Experience installing and troubleshooting T1 and DS3 circuits, digital loop carrier, high-speed internet, voice mail systems, E911 equipment (CML) and services, installation and repair experience.
At least 12 months experience within the last five (5) years provisioning and maintaining DSO, DS1/T1, DS3/T3, DSL, ISDN, and fiber circuits or services. Experience working with DMS100 switches is preferred.
