Job Summary

In order to enhance our Customer’s experience, CenturyLink is looking for a Design Specialist, who will be responsible for the creation of detailed design and configuration blueprints for complex managed solutions. Responsibilities include validation and standardisation of the conceptualised solution to ensure operability, delivery, and revenue acceleration. The Design Specialist performs detailed configuration workshops to qualify and engineer complex managed solution to ensure the underpinning technology concepts are relevant for solution execution. The Design Specialist is responsible for adhering to the design process during pre and post sales design activities for complex managed solutions.

The Design Specialist is accountable for directly supporting the Solution Engineering team and Customers by providing detailed validation of solutions and ownership across the pre/post sales transition. Success in the role would be reflected in part by proficiency in the following:

  • Attain client satisfaction for engagements by designing effectively delivered complex client solutions;

  • Minimise post sale change orders for engagements;

  • Achieve revenue acceleration by decreasing installation intervals by effectively validating and enriching complex client solutions;

  • Ensure robust and accurate handover, fulfilling all technical documentations requirements agreed with the Delivery organisation ensuring efficient and quick delivery;

  • Act as single point of ownership and coordination between the Pre and Post Sales organisations;

  • Be a key contributor to the continued growth towards managed hybrid public/private solutions for our customers, and to how we deliver this capability.

Job Description

Working in the Solution Architecture and Engineering team to ensure all technical aspects of our Client’s requirements are delivered in a timely and coherent manner.

  • Ownership – take full ownership of your work, lead the virtual cross functional team to ensure cohesive end to end solutions are defined, documented, successfully handed over to delivery, and any queries form delivery addressed to result in a smooth customer experience;

  • Accuracy at pace – able to ensure quality is never compromised even though the velocity of an opportunity is high;

  • Build technical relationships within Clients be it new business or established Customers;

  • Use the “good enough” design principle to ensure that the most cost-effective solution that meets requirements is achieved;

  • Demonstrate technical and advisory leadership for customers, sales, and other consultants & engineers;

  • Provide feedback for internal contacts in Product Management/Delivery/Support organisations based on Client engagements and perceived industry needs;

  • Provide input into case studies and technical whitepapers on areas of Client interest;

  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve customer experience and reduce waste in pre/post sales engagement processes and business practice;

  • Accountability – hold yourself and others (particularly Pre-Sales and Delivery) accountable with a view to providing best possible customer service.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Information Technology and Services;

  • Minimum of 3 years of solution design related experience, probably within an Infrastructure/Operations role;

  • Comprehensive and working knowledge of Network and Hosting data centre architecture covering WAN, Hosted Area Network, Load Balancing, Security, Compute and OS architectures, J2EE Web Applications, and Database (MS SQL, MYSQL, Oracle);

  • Understanding key components of IT implementation architecture and best practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel, Visio.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, presentation and communication skills.

  • Ability to develop effective key collaborative relationships across organizational boundaries.

  • Strong customer relationship management skills.

  • Demonstrable experience in developing high-end infrastructure solutions;

  • Demonstrable experience in the IT industry – should be a trusted and respected TDA;

  • Must have customer facing experience;

  • Some travel may be required through the UK and Europe.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in transformation/migration solutions from/to private/hybrid/public clouds

  • Certifications on/experience with one or more of the hyperscale platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Desirable relevant certifications e.g. ITIL, TOGAF, COBIT, DODAF, SABSA etc

  • Full UK driving license (with the ability to travel to company offices and client sites across EMEA);

  • Interest/experience in process optimisation/automation.
